Hi Class,
As we move into our reading of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, we will be discussing some aspects of society that are highly controversial. During this unit there will be some opportunities for extra credit. There will be a discussion board, a comparison to another book, and a reflection on a movie for extra credit. The descriptions on these will be at the bottom of this post. I hope that you all enjoy your reading of the book!
Miss Devin

Extra Credit:
-I will post some discussion questions under our class on Blackboard. I would like you to share your thoughts to the discussions and to your classmates thoughts on the topics. Feel free to share what you like but please be respectful and aware of others as you write
-Read George Orwell's book "1984" and write a one page reflection on the connections that you see between Brave New World and 1984. George Orwell wrote his book in response to reading Brave New World so keep that in mind as you are reading.
-Watch the 1998 version of Brave New World and write a one page reflection on the differences between the book and the movie. What liberties have the producers taken in changing the text and meaning of the book?

Shakespeare Unit

Hi

As we get more in depth into our Shakespeare unit, I'd like you all to begin thinking about whether or not you would like you choose him for your end of the year paper topic. As you all know you will have to pick one of our units for your paper. I would like you to do some research on Shakespearean criticism using the linked search engine. Please bring at least one article on Shakespeare that you find interesting to our next class.

If you are thinking about working on Shakespeare or just want a little more background info on him just follow the link provided.

Also, if any of you are interested in actually seeing Shakespeare's plays rather than just reading them, Shakespeare & Company, which is based out of Massachusetts performs a lot of our reading material on a regular basis. Check it out!
